*A rock and roll alternative was this Southern band's 1978 breakthrough record.  After 5 albums and 4 years of trying, they hadn't gotten higher than #74 in the LP lists, but this time, their mixture of country and rock finally found its audience, largely due to the track we'll play tonight.  Name the band and extra credit if you can come up with the name of the single that ushered the album to #11 and gold status...
