*John Lennon wrote a song in 1963 when he was in Spain.  He didn't write it for himself, but for a band that Brian Epstein signed in addition to The Beatles.  In fact, Lennon also wrote the song that would become the B-side, for a single that went to #1 in the UK and turned into a big hit in the U.S.  Name the band and extra credit for the name of the song...

*We'll enjoy a track from 1972 that was initially titled, "Desert Song".  After all the song is about a trip through the desert and while that can be unforgiving, the singer finds comfort in such a scenario.  Perhaps a bit of such comfort came from the fact that the writer of the song was tired of rainy England.  Name the band and extra credit for the name of the track...

*In 1970 this part-time mailman, part-time musician at the time, was playing in a Chicago club when a young journalist by the name of Roger Ebert dropped in for a set.  Ebert listened to the set of original songs and wrote a glowing review for the Chicago Sun Times, essentially launching  a rather incredible music career.  Name the artist...

*This band's 37 minute album took 2 years to record and was the most expensive record ever made when it came out in 1980.  There are any number of reasons why it took so long, a few of them due to some serious life situations/tragedies involving injuries from a car accident and a drug overdose and passing of a girlfriend of the band's frontman.  Name the band...

*This artist started off at the age of 10 playing keyboards for gospel legend Mahalia Jackson and then on to Ray Charles' touring band.  That led to stints playing with two great bands (one British, one American) in the late 60's, early 70's, prior to pursuit of a solo career that garnered him five, Top Ten hits.  Name the artist...

*This well-known British artist composed a ballad, sung from the point of view of an aging farmer who survived the worst winter in 14 years.  The farmer pays tribute to his loyal wife, who stayed by his side throughout that winter and all others.  While the subject matter is truly distant from the artist's real life, the song holds a warm place in his heart.  Name the artist and extra credit for the name of the 1971 classic...

*The Ronettes were a group on the rise in the mid-60's.  They had a song written for them, one of the co-writers was Phil Spector.  They would go on to record it first in 1966.  3 years later, this band that also had a great relationship with Spector, got a hold of it and made their version a big hit.  Name the band and extra credit for the name of the track...

*This popular British band formed in 1972 released a single from their 5th album in 1976, an atypical love song.  It wasn't giddy with joy or tinged with heartbreak, but was much more grounded, championing compromise and communication.  The guy in the song mans up and wants to call his girl, but the phone lines are down due to weather.  Undeterred, he walks through rain and snow all in the name of love.  Name the band and extra credit for the name of the song...

*In the mid-70's, this artist introduced us to a drifter with a very singable name as he transformed himself into a pop/rock artist.  Two albums later he gave us a hit song with a title of and about a pimp.  Name the artist and extra credit for the name of the song...

*This British artist was a product of education, as both his parents were educators.  He would go on to achieve international fame for his mood-inspiring guitar and vocals for a band he ultimately became a leader.  And when the group finally disbanded, he worked with some of the most respected names in British rock while pursuing his solo career.  We'll dip into a 2006 solo album.  Name the artist...

*One of the members of The Beatles wrote this song after having an argument with his then wife.  He was lying in bed with her and she was going on about something that made him irritated and the words kept going through his mind.  He got out of bed and wrote a rather cosmic song, rather than what was irritating him.  The song, additionally, is often cited as an example of band member tensions over treatment of each other's songs.  Name the Beatle and extra credit for the name of the song...

*This artist generally creates reflective albums that live thoroughly in the moment, swinging between sunshine and twilight in a warm, comforting manner.  Known for spinning stories and telling jokes inside the music, this song released two months after his passing details how we are all often caught just treading water each day in a somewhat upside down world.  Name the aritst and if you can name the song, I pronounce you...musically gifted!

*We'll go back to 1980 for one of the most significant singer/songwriters of our time and a song about a famous location in L.A.  There are all too many stories of those who go out to L.A. to make it big, (don't), and end up hustling.  Our artist lived in the area and witnessed 1st hand such observations as he wrote this song, sharing some positive reinforcement about getting past this period in their lives.  Name the artist and extra credit for the name of the song....

*This band was a Spanish group but with a German lead singer.  They were one of the few groups from a non-English speaking country to have an international hit, in part because they were one of the few Spanish acts to actually sing in English.  Excellent hit from 1976 spins tonight.   Name the band and real extra credit if you name the track that will play...

*We'll play the long version of a song with an album version of 8:29.  The problem?  The year was 1971 and songs like it simply weren't played on any radio.  Band Members heard a stripped-down version one day on the radio along with everyone else in the general public...a three and half minute version...cut for radio play.  The band dudes couldn't believe it!  Name the band and extra credit for the name of the song we'll play later this evening...

*On many of this band's records, the lead singer sings indecipherably...not so on this song though.  He had a message to send and did not want it to be lost.  Excellent string arrangement on this one done by Zeppelin bassist, John Paul Jones.  Name the American band and extra credit for the name of the track from 1992...
